Film-like noise
Are you sure you didn't scan a Tri-X pan negative? That's what the granular noise in the above closeup looks like. In analogue days we didn't just live with it but actually enjoyed that sort of granularity. I don't think anyone objects to luminance noise. If we have issues, it's with chrominance noise. And that is best dealt with PP.
