Hi all. My brother-in-law has asked me to take some photographs for a new brochure. The photos are of panels and vanity tops, etc. Not my favorite subject matter but I can't say no. I have an A300 with an HVLF42AM flash & the following: Minolta 50mm 1.7/Tamron 90mm/kit lens. Can anyone give me some pointers? I've been thinking about purchasing a new lens so maybe now's the time? I am having trouble getting a low light focus lock on the A300. I am using a combo of kit, KM50mm 1.7 and SAL75-300. It doesn't seem to matter which lens I have attached. There is plenty of light to get great 1600-3200 shots but I can't get the focus. I tried w/ AF Illuminator in Off and Auto w/ no perceived change. I have tried leaving red eye reduction on/off w/ no help. I left the flash up while not using thinking it might give me the AF Illuminator but no help. Is this simply a limitation of the camera, or my lenses.

At long last I have joined the ranks of DSLR users having used a Minolta 700si and slide film for the last 10 years. Just got back after purchasing a Sony a300 kit, Vertical Grip and an F42AM Flash, now just waiting for the batteries to charge. Could any one tell me if my remote for the 700si will work with the a300? Look forward to hearing from anyone who can help and will try my best to be an asset to the Forum

I want to take photos by pressing the enter key on my keyboard - really, just to be able to access the camera & shooting.

I really want to use it for time-lapse photography over a couple of days. Or to do other scientific sorta stuff.

How Can I do this using the USB wire or otherwise? I don't want to buy another piece of hardware, I only want a software solution. I could get an extra cord, but not another piece of hardware.

Was there an A300 firmware upgrade? From all the discussions regarding the A700 high ISO disappointment vs the similarly equipped Nikon, it seemed reasonable that a firmware upgrade for the A700 could be anticipated. Is there any anticipation that a firmware upgrade could offer such dramtic improvements to the 300's high ISO capabilities. The other area I would like to see improvement in the A300 is fps. Is fps something that could be affected by a firmware change? Possibly, shooting in a lower resolution to bump framerate.

I'm debating between getting the A300 and the A350. It seems like the primary differences are the 10MP on the A300 vs the 14MP on the A350. And because of that the Image Burst Mode is slower on the A350.

My question, if I bought the A350 and set the image quality to capture at ~10MP, I would assume that I would get about the same Image Burst speeds on the A350 that I would get on the A300... am I right?

Any other thoughts? The camera would be primarily used to take pictures of my kids (infants now, but they will grow)

Here is a recent photo I took with the Sigma 70mm Macro lens and A300. I am impressed with the lens' sharpness although as the subject wasn't completely flat it made the DOF more tricky.

I took this photo last week on a shoot and wanted to go for a really moody image, only thing is, I'm not sure whether I've overcooked it a little or not. One minute I love it and then the next there is a nagging doubt that it's overdone...
