A-700 review

Carl, I have had this camera for a couple of months now and absolutely love it.
I just re-read your review on it and have a couple of questions.

1) Are you going to do a further write-up on the DRO feature. I have been playing with this feature and would like more on it's usage and what to expect with the various settings.

2) Mirror lock up. What is mirror lock? Is it holding the shutter open manually? Does the A-700 do this?

Thanks

Olympus Shadow Adjustment Technology

It seems Olympus has jumped into the Apical arena by implementing their version of DRO. Similar to basic DRO or Nikon's D-Lighting, Olympus is on the map now showing their implementation of Apicals technology into the Olympus E-420. Both licensed this technology from Apical a bit ago, and now we are seeing it in the DSLR lineup from Olympus, while Nikon has had D-Lighting for some time now.

Either is near Sony's Advanced DRO+ in the Sony A700, but it looks as though both companies have committed to this technology to a degree.

DRO+ with the Sony A700- Current Notes

Due to a very nice post by Harry Briels, I have decided to share my current knowledge of DRO+ with the rest of the bunch. I am leaving out standard DRO because it has been documented to only make levels and contrast adjustments to the scene, something that can basically be duplicated in photoshop.

DRO in A700 how to use it properly?

I already placed the following questions in another top Forum for the Sony SRL but sofar, no direct to-the-point answers have been generated.
One would expect Sony to finally become aware that the 'Dynamic Range Optimalization'-function makes the A700 unique among SRLs, and requires far better support from Sony itself!
It is impossible to understand why the information about DRO in the users manual is this limited and kind of primitive and as a consequence does not inspire to the application of this unique DRO-function.
