Flash for Sony Alpha

Hi! Im looking for flash and do you recommend 3rd part flash. I'm particular with Metz 58 AF-1S.
Or the Sony HVL-58 will be the great flash.
Can you please give the comparisons between the two.

Do I understand this right? About the HVL-58AM being a MUST buy if I want to use flash with aan A900?

I have read that if I were to buy an A900 I would also need spend anther $500 for a HVL-58AM flash because my practically new HVL -F56AM flash will not work on the A900. Why not!?!? Did they change the hot shoe? That's goofy. Someone please explain this to me. I must have misunderstood.
