A700 - X.FINE with DRO or RAW (no DRO)?

I am kind of uncertain what to use, as a standard in my A700: X.FINE with DRO or RAW (no DRO)? X.FINE with DRO Lv3 most of the time produces excellent 'out of the camera' results. To get similar or perhaps slightly better results out of RAW (no DRO) requires quite some pp.
It certainly is (in the A700) no longer true that RAW always will generate better results than JPEG, or...?
Thanks for your opinion!

dcraw fully supports A900 raw files

In case anyone doesn't already know, dcraw officially supports a900 raw files as of about a week ago.

Be interesting to compare conversions done with it vs ACR's preliminary support.

Sony A200 - is NR applied to all RAW files?

Hello all,

Newbie here. I've had my A200 for about a month now and I'm loving it so far.

I'm starting to experiment with RAW now and I'm wondering if NR is applied to all RAW files. I noticed there is a NR off on high ISO setting.

Does this mean NR applied to RAW only at high ISO (iso 1600 or 3200) by default?

From what I have read - RAW is best for getting the highest quality and there is NR applied to all jpgs.

So far the majority of my pics are in jpg, but I want to learn more and thought I would ask here and see everyone's thoughts.

Thanks in advance

Wells Next the Sea: Sunrise

Hi all,

This is one of the images I took on a recent trip to Wells Next the Sea in the UK. I went on a trip with two other photographers- both shooting Canon- boo... Anyway, a good time was had by all and I came away with several images that I'm pleased with- this being one of them.

Water Droplets on a Leaf

I took this shot in the afternoon right after a quick rain. Thought there would be great opportunities for some macro shots of water droplets on leaves.

Exposure: 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture: f/11
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0/10 EV

Captured it in RAW (ARW) on my A100 with the 50mm f2.8 Macro, then edited the photo in photoshop CS2 (camera raw for exposure, and then some curves, levels, and unsharp mask). It just didn't come out looking as sharp/contrasty as I was hoping. Looks like there's a gray film over it.
