Can you buy the A200 as body only?
I'm looking for the best deal on an A200 for someone, but I can't find any deal that doesn't include a kit lens. They already have lenses and would rather not have to pay extra for a lens they don't need. They also don't want the price jacked up with included tripods, memory cards or cases. Are there any reputable sellers that have what I am looking for?
Sony A700, Sony A100, Maxxum 7xi

After researching all I could before buying my A200, I found that it is only available with the kit lens. That being said, someone else may know of a body only offer.

I've looked at Best Buy, Circuit city, staples, office max, American, B&h, adoroma, froogle, and ebay. Our Ritz Camera closed a couple years ago. The last local camera store is full of Nikon/Canon lovers who will just be asses to you if you inquire about anything that isn't Nikon/Canon related. It's sort of a drag to have to shell out an extra $100 for something that wont get used...

That might be almost as good as being able to buy it body only, if you sold lens on ebay or whatever..
Probably already occurred to you. It would be nice if they sold body only, esp given how nice its IQ is. I think it deserves that and would encourage further sales.

It occurred to me, but it's a hassle and I don't think you can even break even on the cost of the lens by selling it. If I am remembering things correctly, it was possible to buy the A100 without a lens. Some people will probably desire to have the A200 as a second/back up body. It seems foolish not to offer it minus the kit lens.

Of Sony, was that they did not offer the A200 as a body only.
What can you do.

There are some US online vendors who will unbundle the package and sell just the body; but this will save you at most about $20. Better to get it with the lens - the difference is well worth it. (Today, one vendor is actually selling the body only for $10 more than the package!)

I should scratch that original title. The question should be, can you pick up a A200 from a store in any form... NOBODY within 150 miles stocks this camera! None of the big box stores, medium sized box stores or little camera shops I have talked to has it. One store said they would be getting them at some unspecified time in the future and offered me a A100 body for $699. That's basically what I ended up paying for one with the kit lens from Best Buy more than a year ago.
I could pick up a Canon or Nikon DSLR in any of these stores right now. Almost all of these stores are blowing out the Nikon D40 for under $500. Sony is going to have to find someway of making sure people can actually try and buy the cameras they read about if they expect to sell any to people moving up from their p&s selection. I'm planning to get a A700 sometime this summer, but now I am worried that I wont be able to try before buy, because nobody stocks those either. That's my rant for the day.

More demand will create more stock. Its a big leg for Sony to pull over, but slowly it is happening. I will be interested to see what happens after the Flagship is announced with stock and Sales rep presence.
