confused
Hi again
thanks for those who have welcomed me. read the review on the a350 which I have ordered. after reading it I am wondering if i should cancel it and order the a200!!at the end of the day surely image quality is the defining goal which governs what make and model you can afford. i am new to all the terms of 'i.s.' etc which is one of the reasons i wanted to join your community, too learn.but if the a350 is not as good on image quality as the a200 then why pay the additional considrable difference in costs for the a350. surely, would it not be better to put the money towards a lens. maybe i have misunderstood the review. please some one take the trouble to advise.
thanks
dominic

Dominic,
I'm new to digital slr (lots of film years though). I have had the A200 for a little over a month and logged 1000+ images. I really like this camera. I have heard some very good things about the 300 and 350 but went with the 200 and put the $ savings into glass. I'm very pleased with the performance of the A200 and also use "old" minolta glass on it. My favorite is the 50mm f1.7 prime. I shoot 70% of the time with it. I maybe crazy but I feel it adds film warmth to the digital camera, like playing a record through a digital hifi system.
To sum it up, the A200 is flexible enough to get real creative and also simple enough to shoot in auto and get REAL good results.
Hope this helps regarding the 200.
Zach
Careful to draw conclusions on the A350's IQ :).
Unless you are a high ISO shooter, the A350 has great IQ. If I had it as my only camera, I would use it professionally (selling images) to ISO 400 which meets very strict personal image quality standards.
The A300 has the same chip as the A200, and if you don't need more crop area or detail in VERY large prints, both of those cameras perform better in noise thru the entire range, but they don't perform miracles at hi-ISO's either.
Image quality is subjective, bottom line, these sensors produce less noise at any given ISO than the A350, but how much noise is acceptable to you is subjective. :) Thats why we put up so many of the test images to help you decide.
I just want to be ultra clear on the subject is all, the reviews are out there, but its is up to the reader to determine the best course ultimately the hard earned dollar. Sometimes its hard to decipher.
Try to print out some of the test images and look at them in the range that you want to shoot in or, think you will most likely shoot in.

This is a pretty smart recipe our chef just handed out: "I just want to be ultra clear on the subject is all, the reviews are out there, but its is up to the reader to determine the best course ultimately the hard earned dollar."
Reviews are like the Boogie Man . . . if you believe in them, they'll scare the shit out of you.
