hi my first post, help needed
hi i've been enjoying this website for a few weeks now since buying my first slr (a350) - i must say it's a great camera! Anyway i now feel i have the confidence to post some images here for critique, but im not quite sure how to do it? Do you need to have your images on another website and use a link or can you just upload any image on your computer? sorry if this sounds stupid this is my first time posting anything on the internet and i would love to start contributing to this fantastic community,any feedback would be a great help

The photos need to be on another site...pbase, flicker, picasa web, etc.
You can then copy the URL and paste it in the message...make sure at the end that you add ".jpg" or it will only show the hyperlink (URL) and not the photo.
Example:
This is mine without .jpg added to the end...
http://www.pbase.com/dvoiselle/image/96033695/large
and with ".jpg" added to the end of it...

Sony A700/Minolta 5D...and other stuff
You need a place that hosts images and allows you to link them to other sites. Most of those sites have instructions on how to format your link for a forum. The sites mentioned above are good options and there is also photobucket. There are lots of other free image hosting sites on the internet. There are also lots of fairly cheap web hosting options around now, too. You could have your own website and gallery without the help of another party.
If I were you, I wouldn't post big, high quality versions of your images to any one of the free hosting sites. Some of those sites maintain the right to use your images as they please in the the fine print.

cheers for the advice i will probably add some photos to flicker as im quite familiar with it, i will definately be submitting some photos in the near future, i'm only just 17 years old and have been into photography for a while, this site caught my attention while i was considering upgrading from my sony n1 to an slr, you provide great advice and were a big influence in my purchase of an a350, so thanks to carl, eric and everyone else posting on this website
The questions have been answered before I got a chance too :).
For now this is our setup. Eric and I are always up to improving the site however, so you don't know what we may end up doing in the future :).

Yes as others graciously answered just basically cut and paste the direct and complete url to your image.
A few hosts sometimes require a few extra steps to let you link images offsite (like pbase) but generally most don't.
