Just bought a 100mm F2.8 macro
I purchased a used Minolta 100mm F2.8 Macro. Would someone look at these first few shots and tell me if they are representative of what this lens is capable of? My cat and the flower were hand held. I used a tripod for the spider, but the wind was blowing. :)
I'm looking at them on my laptop and I'm not sure of the sharpness and color.
Thanks for looking.

Hey SKB,
What camera are you using with this new Minolta 100 macro? They may look a little soft if your model of camera is not properly calibrated for accurate focus. After sending my camera back to Sony for the Third time they finally got it right. A photo taken of my wife from over 5 feet away you can actually see the contacts in her eyes. This is one of the sharpest lenses.
Food for thought? Try doing some photos without Auto Focus. Do it in Manual Focus. If your still unsure send me an email at ajgressette@gmail.com

Hey this looks dangerous……..You go first!
If at first you don't succeed, Skydiving is not for you!
But thats my mood right now. Kinda like soft in this case. (soft prints nice :)...)
I don't think they are too soft either.
Color is very good on my calibrated CRT, no blown yellows or reds, good greys and light browns (and two blue spots) on the cat....
I like them.

About the focus.....
The spider was manual focus. In all three pics the lens was wide open at 2.8 so I'm thinking that may have caused some of the softness.
I need to do more tests.

Here's one, hand-held, a700 and Sony 100mm macro.

Hi,
I think these do have a slight hint of softness to them, but as Carl says this gives them a nice mood. I really like the flower photos as the colours are superb. I also agree with AJ in that it may be a focus issue with the lens, what was the camera you are using? Also are these straight out of the camera or have they had any PP to them?
