Lens cleaner suggestions
I'm looking for a lens cleaner and tissue kit that wont leave smear marks on my lenses. The Canon kit I have now does, more often than not, leave residue behind. That requires more cleanings, and frankly I'd rather touch the front element as little as possible. I need something that cleans well on the first effort. There must be something better out there? Thanks in advance!
Sony A700, Sony A100, Maxxum 7xi

Comes with the cleaner, a nice brush, and a lint free cloth.
Highly recommended, I use everything included and wish I had more of each. Time for another order, thank you for the reminder. :)

For basic lens cleaning ever try using a decent 100% cotton tshirt?
Amazingly for me this is the best I've found works great. I use the type of shirts you might wear under a dress shirt. Now I never leave without a piece of tshirt in a ziploc bag ;). Breathe on the lens if you need a bit more, just thought I'd throw it out there.
I think it was actually Mr Carl who turned me onto that trick originally.

I prefer to use a LensPen.

Lens pens work good too of course :). I have one.
I clean my lenses about once a month with solution and a lint free cloth or the lens pen. For me, the lens pen needs a follow up wipe with a lint free cloth, a small film seems to be introduced to the surface for some reason.
Every day cleaning, I do what Eric mentioned. A good soft and clean cotton shirt does the trick. Tim Fitzharris mentions he does this as well while in the "field". When I read that, I didn't feel so bad about doing it afterall ;).

Lenspen uses a carbon substance to clean the lens from finger prints and other nasty stuck-on gunk. Some of the black powder does get left behind regardless of how you use it. If you start at the center of the lens and work your way out in a spiral, the majority of the black powder gets left right between the edge of the glass and the locking ring - where it does nothing to harm your IQ. That technique doesn't ever work perfectly for me, so I end up wiping down with a good microfiber cloth. I recently tried a Spudz brand cloth, and I like it for being so convenient. That one stays clipped to my laptop case so I can clean my LCD. If you do go with the Spudz cloth, make sure you get the bigger size.
My suggestion - Lenspen, Microfiber cloth, breath if you need a tad of moisture - but don't wipe while you can still see a film...you only want to dampen the spots of stuck on goo....not smear the whole lens. Oh yea, and make sure you have a good bulb blower too - Giottos rocket blower does the job well.
