Minolta AF 100f2.8 I Macro vs. Minolta AF 100mm f2.8 Macro D

Minolta AF 100f2.8 I Macro vs. Minolta AF 100mm f2.8 Macro D

I am preparing to purchase a 100mm macro lens to replace the 100mm Vivitar Macro I've been using for 2 years.

I can get the Minolta AF 100mm f2.8 Macro D new at B&H for $500.
I can get the Minolta AF 100mm f2.8 I Macro "like new-" (97-99% original condition) at KEH for $415.

As far as I can tell, the main difference between the two is that the D has a wider focusing ring.

Any suggestions of which to buy? I own a KM 5D.

Thank you in advance!
Anita

Hi Anita and welcome!

Any D rated Minolta lens, my belief is that when you use it on the Maxxum 7 film camera, one of the features is that you can use the DOF distance scale shown on the LCD back.

Sony hasn't brought that feature to a camera yet that I know of, although I don't have a copy of the Sony version to try on my Maxxum 7 (yet).

Don't know of the "I" model, where did you see that? I have seen the RS model (which is also a D rated lens) and there is a difference in the focus ring.

Carl

If you are referring to this one, it doesn't appear to have circular blades, doesn't have a focus hold button, and is older in construction and slightly heavier:

thanks

Carl:

Thank you so much for taking the time to search for the lens and provide me with information. The lens you referenced at the end of your post is the one I was referring to.

I have decided to treat myself and purchase the Konica Minolta Telephoto AF D 100mm f/2.8 Macro Autofocus Lens.

Thanks,
Anita :-)
