Another Day Another Photoshoot

Another Day Another Photoshoot

Pretty standard commercial photoshoot for two dj's. Just needed some promo material. What say you? a700 cz2470 3 hvl 42am's. Shot during the day, so I placed two 42 am's on the opposite side of the sun and one in the front to balance the light.

i like the 3rd and 4th. Did you bounce the light from the flashes or just straight up use the flash on the ground?

Both shots I had pretty much

Both shots I had pretty much the same lighting. 3rd, two flashes to the right and one in front. Two bounced via umbrellas (one front/one right), one an assistant hand held at full power. 4th, same thing except the assistant had it at 1/2 power.

No flashes on the ground. Flashing from beneath wouldn't be a good idea for promo material as it would cause all types of shadows being cast around and a lot of post processing work. These are still in their rough form, so I have still have to do some post process work to clean the pix up.

Good work as usual.

Good work as usual Derren. I'm liking the colours in the last couple of images most. That and nice light helps the pics. I'm guessing the first image is deliberately OOF to allow for copy to go on the image?

Nah, I just did that for

Nah, I just did that for fun. I make sure to do something stupid on each photoshoot just to see how it turns out. Most times it doesn't turn out good at all, but I thought it looked cool. Kinda French Underground Rapper style.

I think I'm going to cut a few of them out to put on a poster. I'll show it to you guys later.

Fantastic...

work as usual. 2-3-4 are the stand outs for me. You have really gotten the whole balanced lighting thing down, excellent natural results.

What's your PP for 3 & 4? I like the slightly grunge hyper contrast look... little over the top HDR feel along with a touch of Dave Hill.

I am sure they will be pleased with the results.

Thanks for sharing - H

3. I never touch contrast.

3. I never touch contrast. I do shadow/highlights + mask. I do adjustment layer - gradient map black/white soft light mess with opacity + hue/saturation or selective color and mess with certain colors to give them a more 3-d look. For grunge you can clip blacks a little or duplicate your image and set it to hard light + mess with opacity. I add a slight filter of film grain if the picture looks too 3-d.

4. I do the same thing except add a vignette + mask to give it a more 3-d look.

I never use actions/plug-ins/programs. Every picture ends up slightly different, but I do have some set looks/pp routines that I have just, so that I can add it to my portfolio and it makes "My style". I like it when my pictures look slightly cartoonish and 3-d, but not cartoonish.

Like this is my style. That I like to try to achieve at least one photo from each photoshoot (The best).

Yeah the absence of

Yeah the absence of vignetting really stands out on the last pic, especially when I see that photo right after two that have vignetting and more dramatic look.

Nice Derren!

On the Final Product.....
#1 Love the play on the image. The boys are so cool...of course!
#2 I'm a sucker for these kind of images. Ever since you did this at the Oakland shoot, I have used it many times over with our martial art weapons! Love it! The color on the record/vinyl is awesome - POPS right out! The graffiti art makes for a perfect back drop.

Great work Derren!
