Few BW -shots with the 28mm prime

Some shots from today, had to test the lens I just bought (2nd hand, near mint condition, no scratches, fungus, came with the original box etc. 80EUR).

I just wanted to play a bit with the LightRoom. :D

As always, all comments are more than welcome. Thanks for looking.

I love the second one. Was that a preset you used or did you just desaturate it?

Thanks Kiran, no it's not a preset, I don't like them very much, they're quite useless most of the time/always, too bright almost all of them etc. So, with the same effort one can start from the beginning.

Mainly the second photo got a bit higher temperature, desaturation about 80%, then saturated the shadows and highlights with yellow and green, small crop + vignette and that's it. :) I tried to made that picture to match the same time era with the vintage posters on the wall.

Great results

Hi Keijog,

Great results there. These images are all really cool, I think you succeeded in getting no.2 to have a timeless feeling- the pp certainly works well. I think no.3 is probably my personal favourite- not sure what but there is something about the tones and framing in that which make it stand out.

Great series and looks like you got a bargain on the lens.

Thanks Andrew and Kiran.

Thanks Andrew and Kiran. Finally got some time to get here also, been busy lately. That #2 has become my personal favorite, don't really know why, but it works well when I printed it to the A1 -size (594 × 841mm / 23.4 × 33.1in).

Nice set Keijog

I have to agree with the others, #2 is fantastic. It has a real timless feel to it. I really like the warm tone.

An updated version of that earlier shot, I think, that the sky and the overall look of the photo is more dramatic now. Any comments? Hardly can wait to go shoot more pictures with a lots of blue sky. :D Unfortunately there's no air show coming up soon with old planes...sky like this + ww2 -planes would be great. =)

This one

has a lot more drama than the first one. I love B&W but this seems to have created more texture and charm. Very nice shots.

Minolta 28mm

This is a really good lens. Great view on Alpha.

Update is cool, but IMHO....

Hi Keijog,

The updated image is pretty cool and it does really add some texture to the sky, however I think that it perhaps needs a little bit more contrast to really work. Obviously that's personal, but at the moment the sky looks a touch flat, lots of detail but needs a touch more punch.

Thanks guys, especially

Thanks guys, especially Andrew, I added a bit contrast, but unfortunately the building gets darker also, so I have to try that tomorrow perhaps with the Elements and choose only the sky and add a contrast only to that one. What I tried already I can say, that it looks better with more contrast and clarity.

Keijog, if you're using

Keijog,

if you're using lightroom, you do know you have that little picker that lets you edit the curves for HSLD (highlights, shadows, lights and darks,) right? It's that circle on the top-left corner in the 'Tone Curve' part of the settings. It's right under the two tiny vertically aligned square boxes (the top one is light gray and the bottom is dark gray.) If you pick that, you can choose to edit HSLD in specific parts: you click on the part you wanna change and move your mouse up and down (it'll increase or decrease the values, respectively.) You can use that same thing for Hue, Saturation, Luminance, or Grays. If you select it, it'll show a "Target Group" under the picture where it has other buttons for crop, red eye, etc. If you select the dropdown menu where it says Target Group, it'll show you the other options that I listed above.

Anyway, if you choose that tool and edit the sky, and if LR recognizes it as darks, just like the dark spots on the building, one change affects both. If the sky is darks and the building is shadows, it'll only change the one you selected. Hope that helps, Keijog.
