Glad to see that you and Carl actually take photos...
All below is of course IMO...
#1 - I like the tones from right to left - excellent.
#2 - What is the name of the road? I really like the overall shot but the partial green sign on the right reminds me of a T-shirt tag that won't lay flat. Depending on what the name is, maybe it adds something to the image? There seems like there is some color noise in the sky esp. Did you do any NR in post?
#3 The mark of Zorro! I like the very strong lines separating the different elements, the peaks (BG), the ridge of the foothills(Mid Ground), and the tree line(Fore Ground). The colors look great and I especially like the suggested large cloud out of frame that is casting the shadow on that central peak.
#4 I just like it - very strong and "contrasty" image...
Thanks for sharing these. BTW what lens did you use for these?
Regards,
Hapster

Thanks, yeh it's the mystery road taken in a mystery spot :). Yeh people seem divided if they like the sign or not :) I honestly don't know the name, this is a slight crop on the right, there was some other stuff on the right I didn't like and it didn't frame properly with it uncropped. I didn't do any NR were I do do something more with it like print it I would but was lazy to do it on this, and generally tend to avoid PP anyway.
These were all taken with the CZ 16-80 generally with a polarizer filter on. Some of these I was experimenting with some color settings that a user on DPR seemed to be having good success with in producing 'KM color' look. I just mention it in case you were trying to draw any conclusions about the lens and color.
thanks for the feedback and lol on zorro hahah!

Hi Eric
These are great. I really like the mono images, they have lots of subtle tonality to them which holds the viewers eye. I like the contrast between light and dark in the first image. I also like the way you included the rocks and the river- the river draws my eye into the frame.
The second image is really good too, as Hapster says there is a bit of noise in it, but who cares- it doesn't appear to smear any detail and helps give the photo a certain look/character.
The third image is my favourite image, it's got a great composition and great lighting to it. It's a relatively simple subject but one that has been done absolutely brilliantly. As I said my favourite image.
Again the third image shows great tonality and has a certain depth to it, drawing the viewer's eye right into the thick of it. You said you do very little PP, are the mono shots straight out of the camera as a creative style, and if so is it default, or did you adjust the contrast settings?
Regards
Andrew

Thanks Andrew! Yes the third is my favorite as well :)

Thanks I probably should probably take the time to de-noise them before posting in photo-critique since that's what it's for hehe.

It was just taken on the A700 black and white color setting. I'm anxious to experiment more with some PP for black and white to get sort of more a true black and white. Also PP for doing panoramas via stitching as we've discussed before. I'm also interested in color calibrations via PP, and lens corrections. But for other stuff don't do much of it.
