NEw user, a couple of photos
I just bought my first DSLR. I went climbing with some friends this past weekend and took some photos. Here are a couple.
My hand after a really tough climb
An old snowplow behind a gas station
Both taken with the Sony 18-70 kit lens. The hands photo was adjusted for levels. The snowplow was color. I used PS elements to convert it to B&W and darken the image a bit.
some thoughts?

Hi Fenderfour,
A big welcome to AMW, and thanks for sharing these photos with us. Both of the images are very good and show a flair for creativity. How are you getting on with the A300?
I really like the angle and perspective on the first image, it's quite unusual but works well. Looks like it was a tough climb judging from your hands! The colour and overall contrast is also excellent on the first image.
The black and white image of the snow plow is also pretty neat, again I like the composition here. One thing I would do on this one though is tweak the contrast in the bottom left of the image. It seems a little grey there, drawing a rough selection around it, feathering it, and increasing the contrast would work wonders. Apart from that it's all good.
Cheers for sharing these and keep posting here :-)

I am liking the A300 so far. Since it is my first DSLR, I don't have anything to compare it to. I really like the availability of inexpensive high quality lenses from the old Minolta line. I've picked up a few and they are working great.
I am just learning to use image manipulation software as well. I will give your suggestion a try. it should be a good starting point.
THanks for the feedback

Thanks for showing up here at AlphaMountWorld.
Very nice images, and I won't add to Andrews comments here much as he has really covered the bases well. What I really like is your perspective in these shots, excellent composing of that perspective creates telling images with storyline, impressive.
The A300 is a great choice for a first timer's camera, very versatile with great image quality.
I do like the tag line "striving for mediocrity", I know of an Oingo Boingo lyric that states the same, and love that line!
Looking forward to seeing more of you here,
Cheers
Carl
