And like you say, elusive. I've seen maybe one out this way (I think) but I didn't have a camera at the time. Also, I believe this is a male, and they have prettier plumage than the females (the one I saw was a female I believe.
Bottom line, the best thing you can do to get a good shot of wildlife is to get close :), 500mm or not.
