Hummingbirds and flowers
I think hummingbirds visiting flowers is one of the few things I haven't yet shot with the A700. The superior AF abilities of the A700 make a HUGE difference for this type of photography. Last year I was using manual focus for 99% of such shots taken with the A100. With the right lens it's possible to manually focus pretty fast, so it wasn't a huge deal. It's far nicer to be not to have to worry about focusing on your subject, though. The superior metering of the A700 also is apparent to me. Of the 40 or so shots I took the camera only botched the exposure on one by blowing out the highlights badly.
If it wasn't obvious, I continue to be very pleased with this camera. I still think Sony nailed it.
A mature male ruby-throated hummingbird and either a immature male ruby-throated hummingbird or a female ruby-throated hummingbird visiting silene regia(royal catchfly).
All shot at 800-1600 ISO.

Some very nice shots. I love hummingbirds.
These are beautiful. They are difficult creatures to capture. You've done a nice job.

All the pictures are very nice. Also looks like a happy and playful bird.

All really nice shots and I like no. 6 the best.
Thanks for all the kind comments, everyone. Hopefully I will be able to get some pictures of them using the other flowers in the coming week. It seems like the hummingbirds and flowers are all running on a late schedule this year, so hopefully stuff will stick around a little bit longer.

Hey Brian,
These are all superb and excellent captures, I think they show the A700 off well (that and your skills in operating it). These look like difficult birds to capture... Out of all of the images I think that I like no. 7 the best. It's nice and simple yet pin sharp and has captured the bird in a flattering pose.
I look forward to seeing any others that you may get. Thanks for sharing these.
