A try at Portrait
Here is a portrait I tried of my friend a few days back.

You held the flash off to the side to give the subject more interesting lighting. To me the fence did not add a thing. It obscured the subject and put a shadow on his face. It looks like you had auto focus on and the camera focused on the fence not his face. I think the photo could be better if a little more light hit the shadowed side of his face. Is the fence part of the story you are trying to tell? If for example your friend happens to be in jail and you are trying to show how confined and sad he is, while obscuring his identity, you did a good job. His arms folded across his body makes me think he is cold or frightened.
Just my opinion. Try again.

Body:Alpha 100
Sony lenses: 18-70mm f3.5-5.6 DT, 11-18mm f4.5-5.6 DT

and this is the result
is this better? I changed the WB and all overexposed the face. diff picture also
Any more comments on this new photo?
Mainly I like the shot itself better you can see more of his face, I think it might look a bit on the fluorescent side is all.
I like the composition as a whole as well as the fence, and think it's quite a good shot actually.

Hi mate,
Cool photos. I do agree with Dave about the first image although I like what you were trying to achieve. The second image is really very good. I like the way you have 'tightened' up the framing, and also the viewpoint being slightly above looking down is really cool. The change in colour temp is interesting too. I wouldn't have thought of doing that, but the result speaks for itself- very original and innovative.
With the first image I would be tempted to crop in tighter and then turn it mono, I think that would make it more successful.
Cool images. Thanks for sharing them.
