Along came a spider and out came the mini cams
As my girl friend and I sat down for breakfast, this spider decided to lower it's self down and joined us. We reacted like good photographers and both grabbed our cameras. This one was taken with my Ricoh GX200 using the built-in flash and spot focus/exposure.

That's impressively sharp! Was that taken in RAW or JPEG?
I don't know much about spiders but I know I wouldn't want to see that one in my house.
Sony A700, Sony A100(sold), Maxxum 7xi, and Maxxum 700si.
The camera provides both RAW and JPG images. In this case there was not much difference between the JPG I made from the RAW and the JPG that the camera provided. I'm not sure what kind of spider it was. I feared it might be a brown recluse so I killed it. At first I thought it was a young wolf spider but it was on a web so I assumed it was not. I love the depth of field I get in close-up from this little camera. I was impressed that the flash worked when I was so close to the subject. I wonder what those dark spots are under it's body.

Hi Dave,
Cool photo, I don't think I'd like to meet the spider, but the photo is cool nonetheless and there is lots of detail. The GX200 seems like an ideal camera for close ups like this! Impressive flash performance too, especially considering how close you were.
