Anyone looked at the Pentax K20d

I was wondering if anyone has taken a serious look at the Pentax K20d form what i read it seems to be loaded with features, although one draw back is the 3fps. What are your thoughts?

I've browsed it thoroughly, does that count?

:)

To me the Pentax does some things really really well, and has a very decent sensor for 14.6 megapixels. They reduce noise quite a bit on it which does make it appear as though it has a better noise profile, but overall it is about equal to the A350, maybe with a slight edge in performance.

Weather sealing is just outstanding.

Call it a K10II imo.

My brother has one. It's a great camera, but the LiveView implementation is really poor. It's as if Pentax only included it for people who make checklists and don't look further than that.

The rest of the camera is fantastic - great image quality, very decent user-interface, excellent build, fast and accurate AF with peripheral sensors that actually lock (as opposed to my 7D), bright and large viewfinder. If I was in the market for a new DSLR and a new system, I would choose the K20D over the A700, E3, 40D and E3. It's that good (for the record, I'm currently using a KM 7D and an Oly E330).

K20d

Hi Kevin,

The K20d is a really nice camera and well built and specified. In the UK it is undercut by the A700 a little, but overall the two are fairly evenly matched. As you say the 3fps is a little limiting in a camera of this price range. The layout of the controls is nice and easy (though not as good as the A700), with some external controls for metering etc.

The focusing is not as good as the Sony's (from my experience with the camera and GX10/20). They are currently a little limited on lenses, but are rectifying this pretty quickly. It's a decent camera, but not quite as consistent as the Sony Alphas- I found the metering more flaky than the Sony system, it is quick to clip highlights and shadows if you are not careful (looks like they are applying a strong tone curve to the files).

A700 metering is dominating the market

Without a doubt, the A700 meters better than any other camera I have used to date,.....with exception to one other Sony camera. :)~

Would that 'bit' be approximately 33,120 minutes from now ~ more or less?

Don't let me put you in an uncomfortable spot - this might be a good time to just say, "NDA. My lips are sealed."
