Convict Lake, Easter Sierra Nevada (Ricoh GX-200)

Convict Lake, Easter Sierra Nevada (Ricoh GX-200)

Got back from a really fun trip in the Sierras. Planned a big hike so weight was crucial, only brought my GX on this trip couldn't afford the extra bulk or weight of a DSLR in this case.

One of the shots from the day.

Cheers,

Carl

Interesting image...

I esp like the gray tones that blend with the low clouds. What elevation is this lake at?
It is really neat in that appears to be an almost B&W scene expect for the little color in the stump and the scrub on the distant foothills...

You really do have some great areas out there near you for shooting landscape and nature. Glad you got an opportunity to get away from the computer and tech stuff for a little while...

Thanks for sharing,

Hapster

It's a nice shot Carl, hope

It's a nice shot Carl, hope to see more from you on this area, looks great.

I am receiving mine today

Hi Carl, After watching lots of examples, specially the ones seen here, I decided to go for the GX200 as a pocket camera. After selling the G9, that didn't live to the 100th click, I'm looking forward to master all the settings and properly manage to take pics in the lightning conditions it should. Will try not to push it, I know is a small sensor...
Once back from Cancun and Buenos Aires will post some pics..... and of course some of my hometown Panama city Republic of Panama.

Thanks for the advices...

Bolivar

PD: will not travel with my A700, too bulky. also its a nice target for the bad guys

Thanks Barry, for some reason

the re-sized jpeg isn't holding the color. I am a bit perplexed. I processed two images from the raw file from CS2, a tiff and a jpeg. I tried resizing the jpeg which looks great full size on image viewers, but after I resize it, it isn't even close to the original in color. Have no idea what is happening.

I think you would like the full sized shot more. GX is capable of some nice big prints too. Did 4 prints off of this last night, 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 13x19, all look great and detail/color holds up wonderfully.

Is Odd

That is odd. Did you leave the color profile attached or embedded in the pic?

Love your picture

Wow, biking up into snow country! It must have been a great adventure. As I look at the photo, it begs for a Panorama view. I want to see more! I also have been having problems with my colors changing on me. With me, it happens when I use Flickr. Sometimes the colors hold but sometimes they shift. I don't have a handle on my problem yet. I hit my monthly upload limit on my Flickr account experimenting with this problem.

I had Costco print out a very detailed 1 foot by 3 foot panorama photo of Mendenhall glacier. It was made from three GX200 shots and the detail is great. I dropped off a free copy at my family doctor's office. His waiting room is decorated with some of my work. He called this morning to thank me and told me he would be adding it to his other photos.

I have put my camera gear down for a while and have been working on finding the best (non-toxic and good burning ) Alcohol for my Pepsi stove that I take with me when I hike. I think I found it and placed an order for some on-line.

I just bought two good programs to convert RAW images. One makes Panoramas directly from the RAW. More next month when I can again use my free Flickr account.

Dave

Different Version of Convict Lake

I took this shot in color and b/w, but it occurred to me that it might look best in b/w after all.

Here is a monochrome version. PP included area levels adjustments, dodging and burning, on a single exposure (no layers added or hdr process etc..).
