A700

A700

Hi All!

I am looking to upgrade from a A100 to a A700. The prices I have seen on the web vary from $691 to $1399. Has anyone purchased from Camera Addict.com ( $691 ) or Broadway photo.com ( $894 )? Is there a better place to go?

Best Buy & Ritz -I have shopped before are both selling the camera at >$1300.

Thanks,

PS- I have a "Beer can" 70-210mm lens & a Kenko 1.4x telephoto pro.

I may be overcautious, but

I may be overcautious, but on new equipment I will only order from B&H. This is not to say there are not other reputable online sellers. But many are not.

You may find this interesting. No further comment from me other than admitting a couple chuckles along the way.

Camera Addict.com enjoys a reseller rating of .47 out of 10 over the last six months.

Broadway Photo is over 3 times better!!! LOL. 1.67 out of 10 over the last six months.

B&H, on the other hand is listed as 9.66 over the last six months. You choose. Choose wisely. http://www.resellerratings.com/store/B_H_Photo_Video_Pro_Audio

Camerastores

I have purchased from B&H before - I bought the 1.4x teleconverter mentioned in one of the posts on this site. Works just fine.

As for the two stores I mentioned, I tried looking on the BBB site but they were not listed.

Thanks for the advice! Maybe I will wait a little longer and see if B&H has a better price or a sale.

Another vote for B&H

I concur with Daryl. I will only deal online with B&H for new cameras and lenses. There is never any bait-and-switch, high-pressure selling, warranty issues, missing items, etc. My B&H online orders generally arrive 2-3 business days after I submit them. They have a very fair return policy also.

Long time B&H user...

But now I'm a much bigger fan of Berger-Bros.com.
I'm a big fan of quality customer service, and B&H is not the place you will find it. Yes, they have thousands upon thousands of items, most of which are at prices near the lowest you can find anywhere. However, they are just too big for their own good, and don't support you as if you matter to them. I've ordered about $10,000 worth of gear from them in the last 12 months, and when I contacted them with regards to a price adjustment, they really gave me a cold shoulder. I wasn't even asking them to "match" the lower price - just do something so I didn't get left feeling raw. No dice, no help... Beger-Bros on the other hand...still run by quality employees who are willing and able to provide 1-on-1 service. They are willing to go out of their way to help you out, and did I mention they have great prices - sometimes even better than B&H? Yea...just order from them and you'll be glad you did.

How many Best Buy stores

How many Best Buy stores have you visited? Not that long ago various posters on dpreview claimed to have found the A700 for anywhere between $500 and $839 at Best Buy. I was able to get one for $839 NIB from Best Buy.

Butch

See my forum posted 5/13. I am charging the battery to my new A700 as I type you this info. I dont know where you are located but if it helps as of Friday, May 16, Best Buy in Charlotte, NC (Independence store) was showing 2 in stock @ $959. I did not get visual verification at the time, I was only verifying the price. Last week Myrtle Beach store had 2 in stock @ $959 and I did get a visual verification on those. For some reason they seem to have a hard time finding them in the store. You can get one transferred to your local BB with a price match. After dealing with various BB to find this camera I come to find out that some of the people you talk to will not go out of the way to give you accurate info. If you persue, use SKU #8547021 instead of model #. BB.com will supply phone numbers. Good Luck.

Chasing down individual BB

Chasing down individual BB stores, at this time, is probably your cheapest bet. It's getting to be a long shot, though. I'm on the road constantly and called some dozen or so BB's between Oklahoma City and St. Louis before finding my 700 in Joplin, MO. This was several weeks ago. If you're going to give this a try, get cracking on it . . . today! Even with has being what it is a 200 mile sunday drive can be worth it.
