Flash

Ok, so I'm going to go with the A300. Most of my shots will be of special needs children so I need Bokeh to blur the distracting equipment & focus on the child. The Live View may prove to be useful. I also want to play around with Macro & from the shots I've seen here, I can do both with Sony. Once I've made up my mind (which is a lengthy process) I want it 'NOW' so, this afternoon I'm going to buy my camera along with a Sigma 105/70 2.8 (I think) & definatley going to order a Minolta AF 50mm 1.7. Getting excited! Just put CS3 on the computer but that's a whole other topic! Wish I hadn't held onto film for so long. I'll post some shots when I figure all this out! A Flash! What kind? I have a Nikon SB 400 - don't suppose it's compatible? Thanks again for answering this neverending assault of questions. Kris

Hi Kris, flash choices for the A300

Hi Kris,

There are a couple of flashes that you can use for the A300, they are the HVl-f36AM (assuming you can find one) the HVL-f42AM and the HVL-f56AM. I would recommend the HVL-F42AM as the 36 has been discontinued and cannot bounce and swivel, only bounce. I have both and can tell you that the lack of swivel is frustrating- especially for the type of work you are doing. The 56 is good too, and the current flagship flash, although it too is about to be replaced.

One last thing, all the above flashes will work wirelessly off camera too, so that adds to the creativity.

HTH
