How Noisy in the Tamron 11-18mm?
And I'm talking about the lens focusing not the picture quality.
I like the 18-250mm but it sure is noisy.
This isn't a deal breaker but I'd at least like to know as I think about it visa vis the
heavier Sigma 10-20mm.
Thanks.

and also slow, but I can't recall for sure sorry. I may be quite wrong. I owned it a while back then sold it. Matt (ph0t0man) from alphalensrentals.com might have that in his stock, and could possibly comment, or you could even rent if he has it.

Hi Mark,
I have not used the Tamron version, but have used the Sony version and I would say that on one of the newer Sony's it's perfectly quick in focusing and not too noisy. It rarely has to move too far to focus so that helps to keep the noise down.
I have personally been using the Sigma 10-20mm lens for around a year and a similar thing applies. It's ok for focusing and reasonably quiet (subjectively I'd say it's a fair bit quieter than the Sony/Tamron), again it rarely needs to move far. The only time I have found either objectionable is when they hunt from infinity to close up- then it generates a bit of noise.
