Just recieved (new) refurbished CZ16-80 from Sony...
I had been very apprehensive but took the plunge anyway...it looks to me as if Sony took the lens internals and put it in a new body...minus the orange box I can't tell it isn't new...
I hope the "it's had more extensive testing...checked twice" vs the "somebody else's problem" holds true. I have the 18-70 lens (Sony and Minolta versions), Tamron 18-250, and Minolta 50/1.7 in that range for comparison so I should be able to figure out if it's good.
FYI this was from SonyStyle...refurb for $525. It has the same 1 year warranty so...we'll see. I was trying to see if anyone else has purchased it refurbed like me...???

Does the 16-80 refurb. still have that bit of play when you grab the focus ring? I assume it does, it just always annoyed me on mine and wondered if they took the opportunity to remove ;)

If you are talking about the slight slack when changing rotation direction on the focus ring then yes it is there...but I assume it is there because of the auto-clutch.
I don't think for me this will be an issue since this isn't a macro lens or anything...boy the big ole honkin' MF ring (push-pull) like on the Tamron 90 is better than the auto-clutches to me..IF manual focus is used a lot.

Thanks yeh no big deal was just curious. It's kind of like how the cz 24-70mm has a minor annoying creak to it after spending all that money. But who cares, its IQ is so great.
You certainly got a good price, that's much less than I paid for mine. Hopefully others will be able to take advantage of that for some time to come as well.

Now show us what you and that lens can do . Pics, pics, pics

I have to say I am totally pleased with my lens. It was purchased new with my camera body so I can not comment about the refurb question, but for quality of color, sharpness and detail resolution in highlights and shadows it is simply superb!
Enjoy using it and post some work for us to see!
