I think optically better than 3 stars though. Pretty tough in his ratings at times.
Show me a prime that does better in each segment :)

Resolution wise they say it's as good as the Zeiss 16-80mm. Maybe Sony should buy a bigger share of Tamron.
Sony A700, Sony A100(sold), Maxxum 7xi, and Maxxum 700si.
But the Zeiss still out resolves it in the center by a tad.
Plus the Zeiss has a wider and longer end.
If the Zeiss build quality was more up to par, it would be the best hands down. As is, it is a toss up between the Tamron and Zeiss imo.
Wrestle me, and I'd take the Tamron.

I got my replacement 17-50 and all is well now. What a difference. Shooting at f/2.8 isn't a concern any more.
