Sigma 10-20mm vs Sony 11-18mm Redux

Sigma 10-20mm vs Sony 11-18mm Redux

I know there have been other posts on this but wondered if any of you had recent updates.

The Sigma looks good...except for the question of Sigma lens to lens reliability. Some are perfect, others flawed.

The Sony is lighter, more expensive, mixed reports on quality, but key problems correctable via DxO.

I'd love to hear from recent users re your recommendations.

Thanks.

Consider Tamron Also

Mark,

If you are considering the Sony 11-18, you should also consider the Tamron 11-18. They are pretty much the same lenses, and Tamron is currently offering a $75 rebate on the 11-18.

Tamron 11-18

Andy:

Logically a good suggestion and I have considered the Tamron...cheaper and essentially the same lens.
The catch is that the apparent weaknesses of the Sony are addressed by DxO corrections while they won't work for the Tamron.
It's weird and addressed in a forum on the DxO site.

One of the reasons I posted this is that I can get more than a little crazy reading the expert reviews and was hoping some of you guys could help keep me sane making this decision.:-)

I have owned both ...

The 11-18mm just had too much distortion at under 14mm to make me comfortable. The 10-20mm f4/-5.6 just did a better job of it.

I got this at 10mm ...

Click to raise

and decided it was the right call.

Personally, I am waiting for the TAMRON SP AF 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di-II LD ... which should really cover a few bases.

Waiting for the 10-24mm

Not a bad idea, given that it will be a little faster and with a wider range.

But of course we won't know quality for awhile and who knows when it will be available.

The 10-20 Sigma looks better to me with each new user verification so it's a tough call.
