Sold my A100

Sold my A100

I shipped it out yesterday. I'm still sad about considering it was my first DSLR and a great camera. I just hope lives a good life with the next owner. It's sort of like parting with a trusty car you've owned for years. Since getting the A700 I hadn't really picked it up at all. The longer I don't use it the less valuable it becomes, so even though I wasn't crazy about the idea it seemed to make the most sense. At least I now have some lens spending money for the A700.

I can certainly see you

I can certainly see you point. I'll hang onto mine, though, I think. There's no harm in having a back up available. I see sony style is now offering refurb A100's at under $400. As the value declines, as it must, there's less and less reason to sell it.

*chuckle* Of course, that's the same rational behind that Speed Graphic I have sitting in the closet. I don't actually shoot that either. *grin* Great prop, though.

I am thinking of selling

I am thinking of selling mine as well. It's like new but the A-700 has taken over.

Where are you guys selling and what is a fair asking price?

Thanks

I sold mine on eBay.

I sold mine on eBay. KEH.com quoted me a whopping $100-$200 for my like new condition A100 kit. I didn't know whether I should laugh or feel insulted :). Used up Minolta 5D and 7D cameras still go for way more than that on eBay!

I watched eBay A100 auctions in preparation for selling mine. My observation is that they usually sell for between $350-$450 for a properly working example with included accessories. You have to keep in mind that prices shift up and down over time. The beercan went for $100-200 just months ago and now people are getting $300-400 for them. I don't expect that the A100 see a bump in price like that, though.

I listed my A100K with a Sigma 75-300mm DL lens, Samsonite case and 1gb CF card. I would consider my A100 to be in like new condition and I included the box and everything that came in it. The first time around it failed to meet the reserve of $600 by $50. I relisted with a lower reserve and a buy it now price of $560. It was bought and paid for within 12 hours. Now I wish I had asked for more. I kind of feel ripped after PayPal and eBay fleeced me with their combined(and outrageous) fees. It cost me $3 more to ship it than I asked. Keep in mind that USPS and UPS are constantly raising their rates when you tabulate a shipping fee.

Thanks for the quick

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have not sold on e-bay before. Guess I need to look into that.
I know what you mean about KEH. They offered me $162.00 to which I respectfully declined. I would rather give it away if I'm going to give it away,
if you know what I mean.

Though I now regret it, I ebayed mine also

It sold for about $600 with a KM 24-50 lens on it, it was in near perfect condition and I had the original packaging. I did a no reserve type auction, this was a few months after the A700 came out fyi.

Lenses up Bodies down.

My experience of buying and selling on ebay is that Minolta lenses are going up and all camera bodies are going down. Lenses are a much better investment overall. I think I will stick with my A350 for some time and just buy better S/H lenses as they come around.

Minolta lens prices are

Minolta lens prices are starting to get ridiculous. Someone on dpreview posted a link to an ebay auction for a supposedly new Beercan that was fetching $400. Paying that much seems insane to me... When I first got my A100 you could get a nice beer can for $80-$110.

Most likely this means that there are a LOT more Sony alphas in peoples hands then I think. The flip side is that the days of cheap ebay lenses are going to come to an end. :(

I'm keeping mine

For various reasons, but possibly for nostalgia more than anything.

Crazy on the beercan prices, got mine for about 125 I think? Funny too, it is in great condition, much better than some of the ones going for much higher in price.

50mm 1.7's are going up too. Supply and demand is all it is, soon as people here they are getting more for lenses they have they start selling them again and they get flooded and the price drops.

Best thing I ever learned from economics class. Good ol law of supply and demand.
