Sony unveiling a new DSLR next week!

Sony unveiling a new DSLR next week!

I just read on the MacWorld site (not a camera site, I know, but it is what it is), that Sony and Panasonic are scheduling announcements next week to introduce new DSLRs.

Can this be the flagship we've all been waiting for? How could it not? I can't wait!

(Why can't I find more information on this announcement anywhere else on the web?)

Perhaps...

Perhaps because people are under NDAs?

Honoring your NDA

Carl,
I know that you are under an NDA and not sure just how much that covers, I was just wondering if you are ready with a full report on the FF when you get the green light to speak about it?
Not asking you to break your agreement, just curious as to how long we have to wait for a full report.
Can't wait to see just how good this thing will be. :-)

We'll have to....

Run a poll, purely for Carl, with multiple choice for the A900 features. Course, we won't tell him he's the only one filling in the answers.... :)

Next week will be too late for me.

I'm leaving tomorrow for a cruse to Alaska. I stuffed all my A100 camera gear with lenses plus my Ricoh GX200 and binoculars into my backpack that I intend to board the plane with. I was told that the backpack will count as my carry on luggage that I will place in the overhead compartments. I will also carry another small bag with my MacBook Pro computer that I will place under the seat in front of me. My backpack (loaded with camera equipment) weighs 25 pounds. I have all my Sony camera gear shoved into the pockets of a special photographers vest. If need be, I can pull the vest out of my backpack and wear it as an article of clothing that happens to stuffed with camera equipment. I have a letter with me from the airline that states that I can wear such a vest and it will not be counted as baggage. I considered wearing the vest but I decided that I look too much like suicide bomber with all those bulges all over me. :-(

Wish me luck. I hope I don't get "TASED" as I attempt to make it thrugh security.

I would have liked to have an A900 with me for this trip but there is no time now.

Dave

Did everyone miss this?

http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/04/ads-reveal-sonys-24-6-megapixel-a900-...

From Engadget:

"It's not quite on Sony's schedule, but a new series of not-quite-precisely-timed ads have now revealed the company's new full-frame A900 DSLR, which boasts a mighty 24.6 megapixels. In addition to that desirable spec, it seems you can also expect to get Sony's Dual BIONZ image processing engine, "Intelligent Preview," a 3-inch "Hybrid LCD," 5 fps continuous shooting, and Sony's SteadyShot image stabalization, to name but a few features (head on past the break for the full spec list). Of course, there's no price or release date to be found in any of the ads, but we're guessing Sony will be spilling those little details when it gets official with the camera next week."

Enjoy Alaska, Dave

Dave,

Have a great time in Alaska. I did a two-week cruisetour in May and loved it. I carried on a fairly large Tamrac shoulder bag with my camera gear along with a Tamrac messenger bag that I used for misc. items. My wife had a 19-inch carry-on bag with wheels and a shoulder bag. We had no trouble boarding Northwest.

It was my first time using my new A700. The majority of my photos were taken with my Sony 18-250 and my Minolta 100-400. Did not use my Tamron 11-18 very much, and used my 50mm/f1.7 only for a handful of shots inside a museum. We did use my wife's Canon subcompact a lot, especially in restaurants and on the cruise ship, and also when asking strangers to take our picture posing together. Your 500mm will be useful in photographing distant widlife and the shore line from the ship. I wish I would have had one with me for times when the 100-400mm proved to be a little short.

Andy

Indeed Dave have a great time

looking forward to what pics and memories you bring back with you. Be safe!

Thanks Andy and Carl for the well wishes for a good time.

I'm glad to hear that other were able to carry a lot of cameras on a plane. I'm looking forward to sharing some of my best photos with this group and I hope to read all about the A900 when I return in a couple of weeks.

I'm can only guess what's cookin Carl but I think I'm getting a whiff from what I read here. I will be able to log onto the Internet from the ship.

Dave

Vertical grip

I hope the vertical grip for this model is interchangeable with the a700's grip. It would be nice to have the a700 as a backup and not have to buy a second grip for that body. It looks the same as the existing grip in every picture I've seen of the display mock-up at PMA.

Just to repeat what Carl said.

Hi PDBreske,

Just to repeat what Carl said earlier: "Sorry guys, till we get the official go light, no word here." We can't say anything even if we wanted to so you'll have to wait a little longer. :-(

"Probably surprise you all."

The only that surprises me is how loooooong this is taking. I'm like a kid on December 24th. At 9PM.

I do a Google search daily for "Sony flagship dslr" just to see of there is any news. Even a whiff of something new makes my heart race. Let's go already! :)

Media Conspiracy?

You would think CNN would be informing its viewers about the new Sony flagship instead of boring us with mundane coverage of hurricanes, political conventions, mayoral resignations, rising unemployment, oil prices, bank failures, Russian invasions, the summer Olympics, etc. While both Obama and McCain have carefully steered clear of talking about the digital SLR wars, rumor has it that Ralph Nader plans to release a new book titled "Unsafe at Any Megapixel."

I received an invitation in

I received an invitation in my inbox from Sonystyle Canada to a DSLR unveiling next week. I am still debating whether or not to go.

Who am I kidding...of course I will go!

Now I have to think up of an excuse to use to skip off that day from work. :D

Fantastic Excuse

Hey,
I think you should go to the show………

Talk about skipping work.

My Accountant, secratary called me yesterday and said she had been to the Doctor and had a serious case of “Anal Glaucoma.”

Never heard of Anal Glaucoma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked what the heck was Anal Glaucoma, and she told me, “She Could Not See “HER ASS” Coming into Work Today.” It took me 3 hours to figure out what she was saying…... I’m an Idiot. Of course I said, “Gee I’m sorry you feel bad, if you need something please call me.

Ain’t life grand.
Thanks for letting me share.,
AJ

Great posts guys! Laughing my butt off here and enjoying them

The jaggernaut of information is just too much to keep behind castle walls it seems.

When leaks start to happen typically in the past that means something is imminent, much like the pre quakes of a volcano.

You probably won't have to hang in there much longer if I were a guessing man, we've all waited this long, a little longer won't hurt.

And then I can talk to all of you openly!

Carl
