The specs are pretty good, as well as your photoshop job! :)

Count me in if that were to ever come to be....
Can we "throw" in... lens micro adjustment and full 1080p video recording capability as well!
Aslo I think it is a given that Sony will do away with the grip sensor...

I think you've just violated your NDA!
I assume that an A800 model would go head to head with Nikon's D700, so it would probably have a 15-16MP FF sensor that could see in the dark.

An A800 is next to impossible to coming out this year, I just liked the specs if I were shopping for a camera and particularly liked the blending of 3 different cameras (a700, a900, maxxum9) here.

Booooooo! I either want one of those or an A700, while secretly hoping an A800 release will lower the 700's street price (or I can snag a nice used one for a song when the prior owner steps up). Stinkin economy. :)

As the Zork game said: Not Bloody Likely. [That was when you tried inflating a boat with a torch, for example.]
Even Sony isn't enamored enough with the Alpha logo to put in on both sides of the camera. And I think we've come to grips with no announcements of SLR bodies for a bit -- though I'd love to see the next generation. I'd lcovet a compact version of the 700, not m4/3 or anything just a200 size/weight with all the A700 power and sensor. But my 200 isn't a year old yet, plenty of life in it before I need an update.
Sorry to be a party pooper, just my loose change.. that image was too amusing to pass up.

I was joking about the NDA stuff ;)
I don't know how crazy Sony is about the Minolta heritage stuff, but maybe in better economic times they could release limited edition bodies modeled after classic Minolta designs. Volvo had a model with the "Classic" designation. It was basically the very best version they could make of an older model with as many newer electronic amenities as they could manage in the older design. There was a niche for it, so maybe there would be a niche for Sony.

An A700 replacement is more likely this year than a whole brand new class/model and the A800 would be just that. So if you are booing about the A700 replacement there is still hope this year. The A800 just wouldn't be the replacement (remember the 800si?).
Looking for an A500 and possibly an A700 this year, those are my scientific wild ass guesses :).

Thanks Carl...I'll be on the lookout for an A500 or the A700 Part Deux. So does your crystal ball reveal these around the PMA09 time frame, or later?

A likely guess would be more towards summertime and not PMA. :)

why the two dials though? I for one would rather see a nice top LCD screen. (hopefully more functional than the a900's)

.... in previous post about "Sony A800 Rumor" was my inspiration to make the photosshoped A800 you saw here, i used A700 with vertical grip, A900 and Minolta 9 photos. I also include the sensor grip detail and the camera flash curved top from Minolta 800si. I'm glad to hear you liked, THANKS!

This image is a fake. Check out the knobs and top portion of the trigger area and compare them to this image of the old Minolta Maxxum 9000 (
). Lighting look familiar? There are numerous other discrepancies as well but this one sticks out like a sore thumb.
I always find it funny when photographers try to fool photographers.
He is trying to fool anyone. He is just rendering some of his wishlists visually. Its ok, he has done quite a few and I think they are pretty well done!

I don't want to fool nobody, sorry for any misunderstanding. Thanks Carl for your post.
Hector.
Sorry, it's just when you search Google for Sony Alpha 800 rumours, this is what comes up.
I love my 800si!!!! Still such a great film cam for the price you can find them at now.
I would love to see some of the 800si features in a dslr!!!
