Ricoh CX3 Review (Full Size Sample Gallery)

August 2010, Barry Fitzgerald

Just about every camera maker now has a super zoom compact out in the market, but Ricoh were one of the earlier camera companies to have longer zoom models in the shape of the “Capilio R” models. Over time the R series turned into the “CX” series of cameras, this is the third version sporting the “CX” badge.

Review- Ricoh GR Digital III

Review-Ricoh GR Digital III

August 2009, Carl Garrard (Updated 9-30- New Firmware V1.21 Available!, 7-26-2010 Reliability Report)

Is the Ricoh GR Digital III the best digital Ricoh Camera to date? This question almost immediatley popped into my mind while I handled the pre-production copy of the GR III, and the same question was repeated after using the final production version of this camera for this review. If you think the GR Digital III looks simliar to the camera it replaces, it does. From the front image of the GR Digital III it is hard to distinguish it from the GR Digital II it replaces, less one very important detail on the front of the lens housing- the 1:1.9 designation. GXR P10 Unit Review

GXR P10 Unit Review- (Part I Samples and Initial Impressions, Part II ISO Test, Part III Speed/Buffer, Part IV Macro Performance, Part V VF-2 Electronic Viewfinder, Battery Life, Lens/Test @ 300mm, P10 vs S10 )

June 2010, Carl Garrard (Updated 7-05-2010)

GXR P10 Open  Today the Ricoh GXR P10 Unit arrived for review so as soon as the battery charged and I set up the GXR body to my personal preferences, I set out to get a few samples. For those unaware about the new camera unit, the P10 is a 28-300mm f/3.5-f/5.6 lens and Back Side Illuminated CMOS 1/2.3"sensor combo, topped off with Ricoh's newest Smooth Imaging IV Processing Engine. From my understanding this configuration is newly designed and although similar to Ricoh's CX3 in specifications, the lens has been designed specifically for the new unit housing, and the image processing has been fined tuned as well. With the battery charged, I set outside to snap a few shots to see how this combo would do (like you, I've been waiting a long time for this one).

Exciting News: Ricoh Fights Back

Today Ricoh announced a new and quite exciting GXR module (P10) for the GXR camera system. It has impressive specifications with a 28-300mm (all new) f/3.5-f/5.6 lens, Smooth Imaging Processor IV, and five frames per second image capture even in Raw mode. Mated to the superior handling GXR body, the P10 module incorporates Sony's excellent back lit 10MP sensor, a double shot HDR mode, 1280x720p HD video recording, image stabilized sensor, and much more. Expect full customization options, top notch build quality, and other excellent Ricoh features commonly found on high end Ricoh compacts. Although Ricoh previously announced this unit would be coming this time this year, I didn't expect some of the impressive specifications. Quite a treat indeed.

Ricoh GXR Review - S10 24-72mm f/2.5-4.4 Module

Ricoh GXR Review - S10 24-72mm f/2.5-4.4 Module

March 2010, Carl Garrard

Ricoh S10 24-70mm Module Brilliant or Unique? Ricoh's GXR attempts something completely new to the photography industry. For anyone who has lived in a cave the last few months, the GXR is a camera system unlike anything you've seen yet. Although it is digital, it offers a completely new set of advantages that sets it completely apart from compacts, *D.I.L systems , and DSLRS. GXR is a system made whole in two parts. One part (the module) houses the lens, sensor, and a processor - all sealed and perfectly matched to one another.. and the other part is the body, which is a sort of docking bay for the module- which has its own processor, an LCD, hot-shoe, dedicated af assist lamp, full manual controls (with customizable FN settings) and more.

PMA 2010- AlphaMountWorld Show Coverage

February 2010, Carl Garrard (Last Updated 2-23 7:56 am PST)

PMA 2010 (click me, I grow) Well, it's arrived everyone. PMA 2010 officially starts Sunday February 21, at 10am Pacific Time Zone. Press (that means AMW included as well) will get a sneak peak on Saturday, but most of the news should come starting early Sunday. We will be attending PMA and covering the Sony Alpha booth and other related booths as well. We will update our coverage here as soon as we can compile it all and get it uploaded. Most likely the 'big press' will give you all the hot stuff sooner than we can, but I intend on getting a bit different coverage (as well as any big news) up here. Hopefully we can offer some additional and unique coverage more specific to our cause here at AlphaMountWorld.

Ricoh GXR Preview - The Interchangeable Lens Sensor Unit Camera System

November 2009, Carl Garrard (Update 11-12, Production Samples, 11-11-09, important links)

GXR Preview - Just when we thought that compact cameras were about as interesting as they can get, Ricohs' genius design team decides to wow the entire photographic industry and community by introducing the all new Ricoh GXR, yet another completely different and unique camera system. As implied, the Ricoh GXR is actually a camera system, it cannot be referred too as a 'camera' by all intents and purposes, because the heart of camera itself lies within interchangeable units sold separately (just think a DSLR lens that comes with its own sealed sensor and processing unit). Two interchangeable units (the A-12 and S-10) will be available by early December- a 1 1/7.5" sized sensor mated with a 24-72mm f/2.5-f/4.4 lens unit, and a APS-C 33mm mated to a (50mm 35mm equivalent) f/2.5 'macro' lens unit as well.
