| Monday I met up with Sony to have a camera and Q/A fest. It's been a while since I've seen that group, so it was nice to get together again to discuss Sony's huge announcements of products. I was treated to all of the announced products- cameras and lenses alike, and got a rough feel for them all. After meeting with Sony on Monday, I was graciously loaned the Sony A77 and A65 DSLT cameras in pre-production form so I could evaluate some functions of these cameras. For now I'll share my first impression thoughts about the A77 with you. A full review will be prepared on a final A77 at a later date. |

Sony A77 and A65 Preview
1,442 long days have passed since Sony announced the Alpha A700 (Sept. 6, 2007), and they finally have announced it's successor (officially)- the Alpha A77 DSLT. It probably feels like a lifetime for A700 shooters, but nevertheless rub your eyes, you aren't dreaming- the A700 replacement is finally here. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves though, Sony has thrown a curve ball into the announcement. A new class of DSLT camera has now wiggled its way into Sony's Alpha lineup, the Sony Alpha A65 DSLT.

Ricoh has announced a new series of compact camera called the Ricoh PX. This time it is a pocketable, water resistant, shock resistant model available world wide (as opposed to the larger G500/600 series available in only certain locations, and isn't nearly compact). It is a stylish camera aimed at entrants into digital photography and competes with other waterproof shockproof cameras on the market.

Exciting News: Ricoh Fights Back
Today Ricoh announced a new and quite exciting GXR module (P10) for the GXR camera system. It has impressive specifications with a 28-300mm (all new) f/3.5-f/5.6 lens, Smooth Imaging Processor IV, and five frames per second image capture even in Raw mode. Mated to the superior handling GXR body, the P10 module incorporates Sony's excellent back lit 10MP sensor, a double shot HDR mode, 1280x720p HD video recording, image stabilized sensor, and much more. Expect full customization options, top notch build quality, and other excellent Ricoh features commonly found on high end Ricoh compacts. Although Ricoh previously announced this unit would be coming this time this year, I didn't expect some of the impressive specifications. Quite a treat indeed.

Sony Releases New Alphas- A230, A330, A380 Preview (Update Specifications Added)
May 2009, Carl Garrard
Today Sony announced updates to all three of their very successful and popular entry level DSLRs the A200, A300, and A350, with the new Sony Alpha A230, A330, and A380. Our first look preview shows that all three have similar but radically changed exterior aesthetics over the DSLRs they succeed. There are many changes to the new Alphas despite seemingly similar spec sheets to the Alphas they replace. All three replacements keep the same sensor as their predecessors (10.2 and 14.2 Mega pixels respectively), Bionz Processors, and similar specifications with the optical viewfinder as well. Most everything else has been tweaked modified, simplified, or outright changed altogether. These new Alphas are the smallest and lightest DSLRs on the market currently that include built in image stabilization into the body.

Sony A200 DSLR hands on report:
Preamble:
AlphaMountWorld now gladly has its hands on Sony's newest DSLR camera, the Alpha A200. A totally new design that one could argue is the first DSLR designed from the ground up by Sony since its acquisition of Konica Minolta. The A200 doesn't in any way resemble past DSLRS designed by KM rather, this new design seems to finally stand out as Sony's true first DSLR.

At PMA 2008, I was fortunate enough to be able to strap this lens onto my A700 and fire off a couple of pictures. But before I go into my impressions I want to say that before PMA, my general thoughts on the 70-300 zoom range lenses were that there are a couple really good lenses in that range, and many that are mediocre.

Introduction
- Experiencing PMA was a real treat although I can say that the majority of the time I spent was dedicated to the Sony booth, namely the Alpha DSLR counter. I went to the Tamron booth and to the Sigma and Lowe-Pro booths as well, but those visits were very brief in comparison, with Tamron coming second to Sony. In retrospect, I believe it was the best way to spend the day. I could have gone another day and gathered more information, but I wanted to get a report up here as soon as possible on the cameras, lenses, and philosophical direction of Sony.
